Adding to the achievements, the 2005G Blue team won the USYS 2021 Eastern Regional Championship this week in New Jersey.

After winning out their group in the Great Lakes Conference (GLC) this spring, and a commanding win through State Cup play, the girls went into the event feeling confident.

In their first game vs Warrington, they showed resilience to come back from a 2-0 deficit to go up 3-2. With 4 mins to play, they let the score even up for a 3-3 draw after a bad clearance.

In game 2, the girls rebounded and showed real class to break pressure and dominate a top team, Real New Jersey earning a  3-0 win.

Game 3, was a 3-0 deserved win against an excellent Herndon side as the ladies showed incredible presence, earning them the win of their group and sending them to the quarterfinal.

In the quarterfinal, the ladies had a dominant win, with a 7-1 victory.

The semi-final proved to be that final type of game with the girls taking the lead early, only to go down 2-1. Mackenzie Pritts tied the game up with 2 mins remaining forcing the game into penalties. The team went into the penalties knowing they had the best goalkeeper on the East Coast in Sofia DeCerb. DeCerb did not disappoint saving 3 PKs and the shooters remaining calm under pressure, earning the ladies a trip to the final.

The final saw the Lady Spurs make a meal of the match in an open game, again showing their never-give-up attitude to battle back from 1-0 down to 3-1. A clinical Syracuse DA team equalized with 10 seconds left forcing the game into 2 – 15 min OT. Ava Weleski, who was struggling with a back injury, capped off a great performance with a hat trick off the bench.

The ladies will head to Florida representing the Eastern Region to compete in the National Championship beginning group play on July 20th, 2021.
