The cold temperatures were no concern to 42 teams from across the Pittsburgh area, West Virginia, Philadelphia area, and Chambersburg, PA came together for the Pre-Spring College showcase.

In an untraditional format, the theU16-U19 teams competed in 40-minute games in the first round-robin play to place for the final day of play championships.

“I loved the 40-minute format of the matches. It really enabled the games to quickly get going and for me to see more players in one day,” Pete Curtis, Cal U Head Women’s Coach.

These college-bound players, showcase events are perfect opportunities to get in front of college coaches. However, the events aren’t always something that’s got an end result of something to play for like you see at league and tournament play

“Adding that extra level of playing for a championship, we were able to raise the level of play even more,” explained Academy Director, Tom Ovenden.

Teams had to quickly adjust and prepare for the final match after seeing the team in a 40-minute game in Saturday play. It was a nice change of pace and challenge for all involved.”
